Safe Community Water Supply - Water
One of the specific certified projects that we support through South pole is "Safe Community Water Supply".
The quality of the water in Rwanda is of low quality and is therefore not safe to drink. It can, therefore, cause severe health issues for the communities. In order to get clean water, the water either has to be boiled over inefficient fires or alternatively people from the communities have to travel long distances to get water. Inhaling the smoke from indoor bonfires and the long distances increase the risk of illness - and especially for women and children. The boreholes that already do exist are usually not maintained and therefore do not work properly - if they even function at all.
Clean Water and Improved Health in Rwanda
This project restores and repairs existing boreholes to create Rwandan communities with clean drinking water. The purpose is to eliminate the need to boil water over fire for purification. This means that families do not need to spend time or money to get firewood. In addition to this, the project significantly reduces greenhouse emissions as well as deforestation by eliminating the need to boil water.
Bu supporting this project we can address health problems in Rwandan communities while also obliging to the 6th sustainable development goal which is committed to reduce the number of people in the world who need clean drinking water.
